    <title>Apr 16, Rio Pescado Stubfoot Toad</title>
    <link>http://www.frog-garden.com/frogs-blog.html#Rio-Pescado-Stubfoot-Toad</link>
<description>A five-year world-wide search for some of the world’s most rare and long unseen frogs, yielded an exciting result. The Rio Pescado stubfoot toad. It was re-discovered in Equador in a far-away remote stream during a night time search.

Atelopus balios is a species of toad in the Bufonidae family. It is endemic to Ecuador. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and rivers. The Atelopus genus is generally a large group of toads that live in mid to high-elevation streams. They are generally brightly coloured toads and are diurnal (that is they are active during the day and tend to sleep at night).
The extraordinary spotted toad has not been seen since 1995. This re-discovery of the very rare frog should help to protect the last surviving stubfoot - or harlequin toads - living in the wild. Disease and habitat loss as the forests are cut down and wetland drained is blamed for the loss and extinction of many of the worlds most beautiful, colourful amphibians.</description>
